Shortly after 10 a.m. on the day of the assault, Poletti was watching television when someone either knocked on his door or rang his doorbell. When he opened his door, three men wearing surgical masks proceeded to hit him with blunt objects. At one point in the attack, one of the men said: “Shoot him!” But no shots were fired.

Poletti’s mother was in the basement at the time and headed up a stairway when she heard her son shout. One of the assailants tried to push the elderly woman down the stairway, but she managed to maintain her balance.

Jacques told the police he did not know the three men riding in his car were about to assault someone. But he identified himself and Saint Jean as having allegedly played a role in the incident. Also, the Montreal police have images, recorded by a security camera, of all three assailants as they exited Jacques’s car, walked toward Poletti’s home and when they returned to the getaway vehicle.
