El Chapo, Unabomber safe as ‘Alcatraz of the Rockies’ reports no coronavirus cases

El Chapo is safe from coronavirus. So is 9/11 plotter Zacarias Moussaoui.

The two are among the infamous inmates at the ADX in Florence, Colorado, “the Alcatraz of the Rockies,” the US’s best-known supermax prison, which as of Friday had no known COVID-19 cases in either unit.

The high-security lockup is protecting prisoners like the Unabomber, Ted Kaczynzki and Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev from the virus through extreme security measures, especially in the 78-bed control unit for the most disruptive and dangerous inmates, TMZ reports.

These prisoners have single cells and are only allowed out for individual recreation time of about seven hours per week.

When inmates like Oklahoma City Bomber Terry Nichols and Olympic Park Bomber Eric Rudolph do get out of their cells, they have three-person escorts made up of guards who have received enhanced screening for COVID-19.

The other two housing units at the supermax, general population and special security also have strict security and distancing measures in place.
