The reputed boss of New York’s Gambino crime family, Frank Cali, has been killed outside his home.

Cali, 53, was shot multiple times outside his car in the Todt Hill district of Staten Island on Wednesday evening.

Witnesses told local media of hearing at least six shots coming around 9:00 pm (local time) and seeing Cali’s family members rushing outside and crying next to his body.

The unidentified killer fled the scene in a blue car, witnesses said.

No arrests have been made at this time.

New York media say it is the first targeted killing of a mob boss in the city since 1985 when Paul Castellano was famously assassinated at Sparks Steakhouse.

John Gotti, who organized the hit, then took power at the helm of the family.

Today, residents in the neighborhood are still in shock by the old-time rub out in the quiet neighborhood.

“I’ve seen the [mob] movies . . . but I’ve never seen any activity in this area,” said Prashant Ranyal, 39, who lives blocks from the scene.

“You never know who your neighbors are,” a 58-year-old local named Salvatore told New York Post.

Cali was believed to have been elevated to the position of acting boss in 2015, taking over from Domenico “Italian Dom” Cefalu.

After reportedly taking the reins, Cali was described by mafia experts as the opposite of Gotti because “he kept a low profile throughout his reign.”

Investigators, including the FBI, are now probing whether the rubout was sanctioned by the commission of New York’s five families — or whether it was arranged in Sicily.

Cali, a native of Sicily, is related through marriage to the Inzerillo clan in the Sicilian Mafia.
