Vancouver’s Cambie Street was closed for a brief time after a suspect assaulted several others and then fled to a nearby intersection.

According to Sgt. Aaron Roed, police were called to Queen Elizabeth Park around 11:50 a.m. Sunday, after a man allegedly assaulted others and then fled to the area of Cambie and West 29th Avenue.

Police then shut down traffic in the area while attempting to take the man into custody.

Shortly after the man came into police custody, he was taken to hospital for assessment before being transported to Vancouver Police jail.

“The male has been arrested for numerous charges and VPD officers will be presenting charges to Crown for approval,” said Roed.

No further information was available though Roed said police may have more details available on Monday.

Cambie and West 29th have since reopened and transit along Cambie has resumed.
