‘In the same cell block’: 1 dead after 6 suspected drug overdoses at Maplehurst Correctional Complex in Milton:Investigation ongoing by police, coroner and jail staff

Halton Regional Police are investigating six suspected drug overdoses Tuesday evening (May 7) at Milton’s Maplehurst Correctional Complex, one of the resulting in death.

Police said just before 6 p.m., police and Halton Region Paramedics responded to the Maplehurst Correctional Facility in Milton for multiple inmates requiring medical attention for suspected drug overdoses.

Six male inmates were transferred to hospital for assessment with one inmate death currently being investigated.

None of the five surviving inmates are in life-threatening condition. “All inmates were located within the same cell block,” police said in a statement released Tuesday night

Police are continuing to investigate in cooperation with the regional coroner and Maplehurst staff.

Police cannot comment at this time on the type of drug used, how it was used or how it came into the possession of the involved inmates.
